General informations

My name is Claudio M. Alessi. I born in Palermo (Sicily), where I currently live. Italy is not so bad... Well, it's not so good as well. Anyway, I like to play the piano (though I never reached my expected level), just because it seems to be one of the few things I can do well. You can look at me while playing something by visit my YouTube page, and yes, I have a Facebook account where you can contact me, or also check my Wikipedia user page, if you wish.

The sweety girl to the right is Azzurra, my girlfriend. One click on the photo with your mouse (or with your Vimperator hint) to see us some years ago.

Operating systems

I started my computer-related career with Microsoft products: DOS (with Windows 3.11 built upon), and almost all Microsoft operating systems released afterwards. I'm not ashamed to say that I still occasionally use Microsoft products. Then came the time of GNU, built upon a Linux kernel. I tried lots of distributions; now I use Debian due to its simplicity (and which make life a lot easier, expecially when deal with packages management). BSD systems has been my best way to understand how a unix-like operating system works. I know lots of very expert and mostly friendly people (most of which from the NetBSD community) and learned much of the things I know today about operating systems internals and programming in general. A few experience with less famouse systems and a bit with GNU/Hurd too helped me to make a clear idea of how and why things works.

My last discovery was Plan9 from Bell Labs which seems to be a great system with lots of improvements againts BSD, Linux and others common unix-like operating system. Plan9 is not unix, it's a newly (both about concepts and implementations) created system where things really works and most hacks has been thrown away in favour of elegant, easiest and pratical solutions. Thanks to the Suckless community to inspired me. This is where I'm usually spend some free time to read about and try things out.

Development projects

I'm an home student mainly interested in unix programming and Suckless phylosophy. Currently, I'm involved in few development projects which are not still available online, but it's likely I'll publish them as soon as they will be in an usable state. Though I'd put some old stuffy in my hg repository.
